The new beds have arrived!

What's New!  Ahhh, beds - that's new.  Volunteer Peggy Bracket found a  source on the internet for dog beds - made available to bona fide animal rescue centers at a very reduced cost.  Putting the word out, Peggy and others got enough supporters to sign up for the purchase of a bed(s) and the next thing you know - we are fully furnished!!!  To Peggy and all those that supported this effort A BIG THANK YOU from every dog in the shelter.

Oh yeah, some other things are new also but perhaps not as exciting as the beds.  Thanks to a sizable donation from an anonymous donor we were able to install security cameras throughout the shelter and individual lockers for the employees and volunteers.  Now valuables can be stored safely and securely while you are putting in time at the shelter.

The cameras will enable us to monitor activities during working and non-working hours to make sure that all is well.  We will no longer have to wonder if all animals are secure during periods of severe weather.

An ounce of prevention . . . . . . . . .as the saying goes!

Who is the first to try one out?  Bonita of course!

Change in Saturday hours

We are pleased to announce that we will be open longer on Saturdays (Shelter only, not the Bazaar).  After discussing the matter with our Board of Directors and our employees it was decided that there was merit in staying open to the general public until 5:00 pm instead of the previous 2:00 PM.  The official Saturday hours are now 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
To accomplish this the employees agreed to take only one hour for lunch and have all hands stay until 5:00 PM.  This accomplishes two objectives:
1.  We are open longer on Saturday to accommodate members of the general public who work on Saturday and can not get in to see us before 2:00 PM.
2.  By having all hands working until 5:00 PM it eliminates the need to have one worker come back in the afternoon to work after we are closed.  All hands are now able to have a longer, uninterrupted evening on Saturday, not just a few.
The intent is to try these new hours for 6 months to see if it will bring increased adoptions for us.  We will re-evaluate after 6 months.  We started the first Saturday in October.

Mariel's new baby!

It isn't always about dogs and cats!!
Feeding Time
Office Manager Mariel (M) has become a surrogate Mom for Tweety.  Tweety was blown out of its nest during our last bout with high winds.  Since then he lives in a small enclosed crate and eats as often as M can find the time.  Tweety is learning to fly and recently flew right around the office and landed on the cat condo.  Although one alert kitten spotted the little tyke and got a claw on it, M was quick to the rescue and saved Tweety from certain disaster.
At any given moment at the shelter Tweety can be seen perched on Mariel's shoulder (her blouse doesn't look to good after that) or balancing on her finger while she conducts her daily routine.
With this kind of TLC what do you bet that Tweety is slow to leave the nest!!  . . . .Good Work M!

2015 Annual Champagne Brunch

Amigos de los Animales is proud to announce that our Annual Champagne Brunch will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at the beautiful El Cid Resort and Marina Convention Hall on the jetty overlooking the Sea of Cortez.  Driving instructions will be printed on the back of your tickets.

Mazatlan's talented Lori Davidson will be entertaining us with her special brand of music for your listening enjoyment.
This annual event, now at a stunning new location, is not to be missed.  Much more than an ordinary brunch, our event features unlimited champagne, a "not so silent" auction with dozens of items to bid on.  Additionally there will be raffle baskets and 50/50's so don't forget to mark this event on your calendar and make plans to attend one of Mazatlan's most popular events.  All proceeds benefit Amigos de los Animales, Mazatlan's Humane Society.

Tickets will go on sale November 1, 2014.  This year we are offering an Early Bird Special - the first 100 tickets purchased prior to December 1, 2014, will be available for $350.  The remaining 200 tickets will be available for $400.  To qualify for the early Bird Special you must have paid for your ticket prior to the cutoff date.  Purchase early and save an extra $50.

See you there!

Rosa

This dog deserves a whole post just for herself!  Rosa has been a resident at the shelter for over a year.  She was adopted yesterday and is now in her Forever Home!  We are so thrilled for her and we all had tears of joy when she got in the car for the ride to her new home!

We have many animals, both dogs and cats, that need a loving home.  Do you have room in your heart for one of these precious animals?

Come see for yourself!!!!

Ticks! Garapatas! UPDATE UPDATE

UPDATE ON THIS LITTLE GUY:
A note from his new foster mom, Linda Clark:

He has a new name, Curly Bill!

He's doing really well.  He's learned (after a few accidents) to do his business outside.  And since he squats to pee, I figure he is less than 6 months old?  I had to let him inside with my kids (dogs) because he's very needy and yet, soooo wary/shy.
He eats and drinks well.  And hasn't scratched his ears yet! (where all the ticks were). The picture with his face in my hand reminds me of the creature that frets with the acorn at the beginning of Ice Age (the movie).

Posted 04 Sept:
This puppy was found by Linda, one of our awesome volunteers, wandering in the streets.  He is full of ticks and Miguel is giving him some relief by giving a medicated tick bath.
