Litter of SEVEN

Puppies and then some!!!  This litter of SEVEN arrived about a week ago in apparent good health but, as with many litters, there is often a "runt" who just doesn't have the size or strength to get his/her share of food and water. The little guy in this case is getting special treatment to ensure that he gets enough to eat and drink and the results are beginning to show already.
These pups are too young to vaccinate but when the time comes they will be fully immunized and ready to go home.

Place your reservation now before it is too late!

Annual Champagne Brunch

What a great turnout for our annual Champagne Brunch fundraiser.  With nearly 300 people in attendance we were packed with great folks eating, drinking and supporting ADLA with their silent auction purchases, raffle tickets, 50/50 tickets and more.
Thanks are in order to the staff at the El Cid Marina - the food was great and the champagne was flowing all during the event.  Service was first class.
The location turned out to be a crowd pleasing favorite with every table having a great view of the ocean and the marina.
This year was perhaps our best brunch ever and thanks to our supporters in attendance we will be able to survive those long dry summer months.  A big Thank you to everyone of you that attended.
Let's also give a huge note of appreciation to the committee of volunteers that gave generously of their time and talent to make this event the success that it was.  It is a dangerous thing to start listing names and then omitting someone, but those that volunteered know who you are and how much we appreciated your efforts.
All in all a super event!

Donation!

A huge thank you to Karla and her friends in Augusta Ranch, Colorado.  Karla makes the trek down twice a year with donations from this group of generous folks, and we appreciate them VERY MUCH!  Between visits, Karla puts up posters around her town and asks people to donate items for the shelter - she asks for towels, bowls, blankets, leashes, toys.

What an amazing volunteer Karla is for us and what an amazing support community we have in Augusta Ranch!  Thank you ALL and we at Amigos de los Animales wish you a very happy new year!!!

Help decorate our tree

2nd Annual Tree Decorating:

Come help us decorate our tree with pictures of your pets.  For a small donation, you can place a photo of your pet on our festive Christmas tree.

If you don't have a pet, that's no problem!  You can sponsor one of the shelter's animals and hang their picture up on the tree.

Please help make a happy Christmas for all our shelter animals by donating.

There are several ways to donate to Amigos de los Animales:

1.  Drop by the shelter with a monetary donation
2.  Drop by the shelter with a donation of dog/cat food or cleaning supplies
3.  You can donate via our secure 'DONATE' button on this page
4.  Send us a US or Canadian check to our US bank (contact and mailing address are on this page)

If none of these options work for you, please call us and we can make more suitable arrangements that will fit your situation.

The new beds have arrived!

What's New!  Ahhh, beds - that's new.  Volunteer Peggy Bracket found a  source on the internet for dog beds - made available to bona fide animal rescue centers at a very reduced cost.  Putting the word out, Peggy and others got enough supporters to sign up for the purchase of a bed(s) and the next thing you know - we are fully furnished!!!  To Peggy and all those that supported this effort A BIG THANK YOU from every dog in the shelter.

Oh yeah, some other things are new also but perhaps not as exciting as the beds.  Thanks to a sizable donation from an anonymous donor we were able to install security cameras throughout the shelter and individual lockers for the employees and volunteers.  Now valuables can be stored safely and securely while you are putting in time at the shelter.

The cameras will enable us to monitor activities during working and non-working hours to make sure that all is well.  We will no longer have to wonder if all animals are secure during periods of severe weather.

An ounce of prevention . . . . . . . . .as the saying goes!

Who is the first to try one out?  Bonita of course!

2015 Annual Champagne Brunch

Amigos de los Animales is proud to announce that our Annual Champagne Brunch will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at the beautiful El Cid Resort and Marina Convention Hall on the jetty overlooking the Sea of Cortez.  Driving instructions will be printed on the back of your tickets.

Mazatlan's talented Lori Davidson will be entertaining us with her special brand of music for your listening enjoyment.
This annual event, now at a stunning new location, is not to be missed.  Much more than an ordinary brunch, our event features unlimited champagne, a "not so silent" auction with dozens of items to bid on.  Additionally there will be raffle baskets and 50/50's so don't forget to mark this event on your calendar and make plans to attend one of Mazatlan's most popular events.  All proceeds benefit Amigos de los Animales, Mazatlan's Humane Society.

Tickets will go on sale November 1, 2014.  This year we are offering an Early Bird Special - the first 100 tickets purchased prior to December 1, 2014, will be available for $350.  The remaining 200 tickets will be available for $400.  To qualify for the early Bird Special you must have paid for your ticket prior to the cutoff date.  Purchase early and save an extra $50.

See you there!

Meet Volunteers - Valerie & Jack Moreau

We are Valerie & Jack Moreau. We have been involved with Amigos de Los Animales since 2000.
We spend our summers in Nanaimo BC on beautiful Vancouver Island. Every November we migrate south to Mazatlan for 6-7 months. We met in Mazatlan in 1984, both of us vacationing with friends, got engaged in Puerto Vallarta, and honeymooned on the Baja. So Mexico and particularly Mazatlan has a special place in our hearts.

Our initial involvement with Amigos de Los Animales was a result of a radio program, which we hosted for seven years, called Que Pasa Mazatlan. While doing the program we interviewed many local guests, which included Nadine and Henry Laxen, who were the cofounders of Amigos. We instantly connected with them because of the love for animals we all shared. It wasn't long before Valerie became a member of the board, and held various positions for a number it years.

We are also involved in several other charities, and we try and divide our time between all of them. Our main contribution is to Amigos de Los Animales, which we support through the annual bus trips that we host. We have been to many parts of Mexico including Mexico City, Guanajuato, Morelia to see the monarch butterflies, Sam Miguel de Allende, Guadalajara, Copper Canyon to name a few. Our goal is to keep these trips affordable, and also to make a donation to help our four legged friends.
Helping the animals is a very rewarding experience, and we encourage others who share our passion, to assist however they can. Whether it be a monetary donation or volunteering your time, all support is appreciated.

Meet Volunteer - Peggy Brackett

Hola, friends of Amigos de los Animales.

My name is Peggy Brackett.  I was born and raised in Farmington, Maine – a small town of about 7,000 people, located in the western part of the state.  I grew up on a family farm, surrounded by cows, horses, pigs and chickens – as well as our household pets, dogs and cats.

In my 20’s, I moved to Colorado, which has been my home base ever since, although I return to Maine as often as possible to reconnect with family and friends.  By profession, I am a Certified Public Accountant.

For the past several seasons, I have been living in my condo in the Marina Mazatlán area for six months each year.  I am a watercolor artist and show my work during the monthly First Friday Art Walk in El Centro.  I also enjoy water exercise, reading and traveling around Mexico – taking a vacation within a vacation.

I became involved with Amigos de los Animales about four years ago.  I helped set up the Amigos bazar (thrift store), which is located on the second floor of the shelter, and have been working one or two shifts each week since that opening.  All money from the sale of items in the bazar directly supports the shelter animals.

Working in the bazar allows me to see the level of dedication and commitment that the staff and volunteers have for our homeless animals.  I invite each of you to visit the shelter to see the operation first-hand.  I also encourage you to support Amigos in any way possible – from donating your unwanted items to sell at the bazar, walking dogs, playing with cats and kittens or working at the bazar.  It is a wonderful way to give back to Mazatlán.
