More Dogs for Adoption

Below are some more beautiful furry friends just waiting for you to take them home...
  
Patsy, she is blind and would need a special home. She is very sweet and loving. She does need to get acquainted with new people slowly since she can not see.

Milsha, young female, black lab mix. A lot of energy and likes everyone.

 

Bingo, about 1 year old, male, smaller in size. Likes people but not sure of all other dogs. Very happy boy.
 

Cookie, about 1 year old, she is a small female. Very shy.  She was in a home that did not treat her with love.  So, she needs love and attention to show her not everyone is bad. Loves her walks. And loves to cuddle.

Chiquis,  is a small dog. This girl is very very sweet, and loves hugs. She would want a bed indoors to be close to her family.

Ban Dam,  He is a younger Pit Bull mix. This guy is very friendly and likes everyone. Because he is so strong, he needs training and probably no young children. Doesn't like all dogs, so one dog family for him.

Duguesa, is a younger, smaller girl. Very friendly, gentle and loves everyone.

Tabatta, is a very sweet girl. about 4 years old. She has a limp due to a past injury on her leg but it doesn't stop her. She likes quiet places and her inside bed. Loves to roll in the sun and have her belly rubbed. She doesn't like all dogs. Her perfect home would be with an older couple, no other dogs and Lots of Love!!

These are just a few of the wonderful dogs waiting at our shelter for their Forever Home. Please stop by the shelter for a doggie hug and lick....you might become addicted!!

Smitty and Carmela- new Canadians

Remember Smitty?  covered in motor oil and rescued by John and Sharon, regular supporters of ADLA? 

 

Well, Smitty has officially left Mexico today, Wed. April 1st for his new forever home in British Columbia - We wish Smitty all the best and hope that he sends some "selfies" of himself and his new family. 

NOT ONE but two lucky ADLA guests left for British Columbia today.  Carmela, another Terrier mix is winging her way on the same flight to another Canadian family.  Godspeed Carmela! 

 

A special note of thanks belongs to Cynthia (You know who you are) who visits and volunteers at the shelter for a few days every  year and is now responsible for finding homes for 5 of our guests over the past few years.  It is folks like John, Sharon, Cynthia and MANY others that make our endeavour worthwhile.  Thanks to each of you.

Update on Roxy

Background on Roxy:  She was adopted by a Canadian family sight unseen, except for photos and flown up to her new family.  In the beginning Roxy had some medical issues but thanks to loving forever new parents she is the picture of health and enjoying her new home immensely. AND Roxy has a built-in playmate - Cleo. 

A note from the new Mom:
Roxy has been doing very well, as you can see she now has a nice curly coat, her winter coat is even thicker! The beginning was not smooth sailing, but it probably helped to create the deep affection and bond we now have. She and my other dog Cleo are now getting along really well and like to chase each other around the house. She's helping to keep Cleo young. This photo was taken during a break. Hijinks resumed soon after.

Pee-wee is the runt that didn't socialize with her litter mates in the beginning.  So, we decided to Foster her.

3 days ago, one of the other fosterers decided they couldn't care for 2 of the puppies any longer. So, we took them on as well.

As you can see, their eyes are completely open now, they're eating like little horses, and rough-housing.

Meet Founder

 

Founder:  Abandoned in the parking lot of ADLA tied to a light pole and forced to sit on top of a pile of concrete and brick rubble.  When she was discovered by staff she was thirsty and exhausted, unable to get out of the early morning hot sun.

Founder has already captured the hearts of several volunteers and should have no trouble finding a new forever home.  She is extremely friendly, walks well on a leash and simply wants some love and affection.  She could spend all day watching the kittens.

Hats off to Rocky (lead Cage Attendant) for quickly setting up suitable quarters for Founder and removing the load of ticks that she brought, unwittingly, with her to the shelter.

 Have you ever experienced pure, unbridled, heartfelt joy? These dogs sure have.

Last year, Heather Owen, president of the Chicago-based dog rescue group One Tail at a Time, published a piece for the Bark Post with photos of shelter dogs during their rides to freedom after they found forever homes. The sentiment touch the hearts of thousands, and the post went viral.
But there was more joy to be had.

Sarah Lauch, a volunteer with Chicago Animal Care and Control Transport Team that carts shelter dogs to and from various local rescue groups, takes photos of the freedom rides she is part of each week.
"I am the first person to take them from this jail-type place out into the world," she told The Huffington Post during a phone conversation Friday, "and its amazing."

Some dogs stick their heads out the window or rub up against the leather, while others choose to close their eyes and feel the wind blow, she said.
"Some of these dogs have been at Chicago Animal Care and Control for months," Lauch later added in a written statement. "You can see as soon as they walk through the exit door, they know that they are free. Volunteering enriches the dogs lives and there are days when it is very difficult to deal with the loss [that] we see. While sometimes heartbreaking, it is very rewarding. Freedom rides are by far my favorite thing about being a volunteer and I sincerely thank the rescues for trusting me with their dogs."
