Help decorate our tree

2nd Annual Tree Decorating:

Come help us decorate our tree with pictures of your pets.  For a small donation, you can place a photo of your pet on our festive Christmas tree.

If you don't have a pet, that's no problem!  You can sponsor one of the shelter's animals and hang their picture up on the tree.

Please help make a happy Christmas for all our shelter animals by donating.

There are several ways to donate to Amigos de los Animales:

1.  Drop by the shelter with a monetary donation
2.  Drop by the shelter with a donation of dog/cat food or cleaning supplies
3.  You can donate via our secure 'DONATE' button on this page
4.  Send us a US or Canadian check to our US bank (contact and mailing address are on this page)

If none of these options work for you, please call us and we can make more suitable arrangements that will fit your situation.

Recent Techmilenio Booth

Once more ADLA was invited to participate in the annual Techmilenio Fair as a non-profit organization.

The crowds were good, as was the food (all kinds) and the non-stop entertainment of dance troupes, singers, and musicians.

Our hardy volunteers, Billie, Alma and Pete handled set-up, sales and breakdown on Sunday, November 15th.  The final tally proved that our Boutique products are in high demand.  We did GOOD!

Donation of medicine

We wish to thank Minnesota Valley Pet Hospital, Mankato, Minnesota for their very generous donation to our shelter.  If you live in their area, please stop by their office and thank them in person for us!

Noah's new Mama!

Noah found his new family today!  His new Mom is Maria De Jesús Carreon Corona.  Felicidades to both Noah and his new family!  Last week Noah made a trip to the orphanage and was a big hit.  He is a wonderful and loving dog!  We wish them many years of loving each other!

We have golf clubs!

At the bazaar on the second floor of the Amigos de los Animales animal shelter, we have at least four sets of golf clubs for sale for cheap, CHEAP prices.  There is a nice Calloway golf bag and the golf club brands include Hogan, Ping, Spaulding, MacGregor,  Arnold Palmer and several others.  There is even a set of clubs for children or a smaller person.

Come by any day except Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to find the club or set of clubs that will enhance your game.

While you are there, please remember to purchase your tickets for the Champagne Brunch fund raiser that will be held at the Marina El Cid Events Center on Sunday, January 25th.  This year we are offering an Early Bird Special - the first 100 tickets purchased prior to December 1, 2014, will be available for $350 pesos.  The remaining 200 tickets for the event will be available for $400 pesos.  To qualify for the Early Bird Special you must pay for your ticket prior to the cutoff date.  Purchase early and save an extra $50 pesos.

Thanks for your continued support.

Visit to the Orphanage

Recently ADLA Volunteers Karen, Pete and three shelter dogs had the choice assignment of visiting with the boys at the Catholic Orphanage in El Centro (Hogar San Pablo).  They were excited to meet with us, walk the three lucky dogs (non-stop) and share in the handouts.  There were children's T-shirts for the younger boys and hats for the older fellows.  Some managed to get both!!
Below are a few photos from that event - a special thank you to the on-site staff that kept things under control and orderly during the event.
To make these events even more meaningful, Fernanda has put together a presentation in Spanish on the care of pets - the do's and don'ts of feeding, cleaning, training and general behavior around animals.  She will have her first group at another Orphanage later this month.
We are always looking for new ways to get our message out to the community and this one will be a winner for sure.

Take me out to the ball game!!

On Saturday, November 8th ADLA was honored at the beginning of the Venados night game.  Our man, Miguel threw out the first pitch!  For his efforts he received the baseball, autographed by the entire team.  In addition to Miguel, Billie, Alma and Pete attended the festivities.
A very special THANK YOU to Alma for making the arrangements and making sure that the rest of us showed up at the right place and on time.  It was fun and great PR for ADLA.

The new beds have arrived!

What's New!  Ahhh, beds - that's new.  Volunteer Peggy Bracket found a  source on the internet for dog beds - made available to bona fide animal rescue centers at a very reduced cost.  Putting the word out, Peggy and others got enough supporters to sign up for the purchase of a bed(s) and the next thing you know - we are fully furnished!!!  To Peggy and all those that supported this effort A BIG THANK YOU from every dog in the shelter.

Oh yeah, some other things are new also but perhaps not as exciting as the beds.  Thanks to a sizable donation from an anonymous donor we were able to install security cameras throughout the shelter and individual lockers for the employees and volunteers.  Now valuables can be stored safely and securely while you are putting in time at the shelter.

The cameras will enable us to monitor activities during working and non-working hours to make sure that all is well.  We will no longer have to wonder if all animals are secure during periods of severe weather.

An ounce of prevention . . . . . . . . .as the saying goes!

Who is the first to try one out?  Bonita of course!

Change in Saturday hours

We are pleased to announce that we will be open longer on Saturdays (Shelter only, not the Bazaar).  After discussing the matter with our Board of Directors and our employees it was decided that there was merit in staying open to the general public until 5:00 pm instead of the previous 2:00 PM.  The official Saturday hours are now 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
To accomplish this the employees agreed to take only one hour for lunch and have all hands stay until 5:00 PM.  This accomplishes two objectives:
1.  We are open longer on Saturday to accommodate members of the general public who work on Saturday and can not get in to see us before 2:00 PM.
2.  By having all hands working until 5:00 PM it eliminates the need to have one worker come back in the afternoon to work after we are closed.  All hands are now able to have a longer, uninterrupted evening on Saturday, not just a few.
The intent is to try these new hours for 6 months to see if it will bring increased adoptions for us.  We will re-evaluate after 6 months.  We started the first Saturday in October.

Who is this sitting in Mariell's chair?  Does she know this is her replacement?

If you won't move, I will just share your chair!
