Manual for volunteers walking dogs...

Please Help Provide Beds for Our Shelter Dogs in Mazatlan

UPDATE:  We have now received 26 beds AND 26 fleece pads to keep those dogs warm.  Amigos has been removed from the Kuranda Bed site as we have all we need!!!  We THANK YOU all so much for your generosity to our shelter dogs.

If you would like to donate to Amigos but missed out on the dog beds, please click our DONATE button and you can donate to us there!!!

Hola,todos!
  Amigos de los Animales www.kuranda.com/donate/11238
Our Dogs Deserve a soft, dry bed. Donate a Kuranda Bed.
Much more comfortable than a concrete floor, these beds encourage happier, healthier, and more relaxed dogs. They make cleaning a lot easier too. Our goal is to have a Kuranda Dog Bed for every dog. Please help us provide them with a good nights sleep.

Our Challenge:  Let's Provide Clean, Comfortable Beds to Mazatlán's Shelter Dogs!!
It happens to every animal lover.  We see animals in need that could use our help.

Amigos de los Animales (ADLA) has been serving the unwanted, street animals of Mazatlán since 1996.  The shelter is nearly always at full capacity, with two and sometimes three dogs housed in each of the larger cages.  The dogs sleep on the hard concrete floor with only a thin blanket or towel to lie on.  This can be especially uncomfortable during the winter months.  Despite the best efforts of our dedicated staff and volunteers, there may be feces or urine on the floors of the cages in between cleanings.

Our rescued dogs deserve to sleep in comfortable beds.
Kuranda, a US manufacturing company, has a "Donate a Bed" partner program that enables you to donate a dog bed to Amigos de los Animales in Mazatlán, at a steeply discounted price plus a $5 shipping charge.  These beds are sturdy and warrantied to be chew-proof for a period of one year.  They are specially designed to stand up to the rigors of animal shelters and rescue organizations.

Please click on this link

to follow the prompts for donating a Kuranda dog bed to ADLA.
The large, standard bed with heavy-duty, easy-to-clean vinyl fabric, which normally sells for $79.95, can be purchased for donation to Amigos de los Animales for a price of $56 plus $5 for shipping.

Our goal is to receive 25 donated beds.  The beds will be shipped to me in Boulder, CO and I will transport them to the shelter in Mazatlán when I return in October.

I am asking for your help.   Please dig deep so we can get these shelter animals off the hard floor and onto clean, comfortable beds.  Please forward this request to everyone you know who loves animals.

Thank you for your donation and thank you for sharing this challenge with others.

Update on Roxy

Background on Roxy:  She was adopted by a Canadian family sight unseen, except for photos and flown up to her new family.  In the beginning Roxy had some medical issues but thanks to loving forever new parents she is the picture of health and enjoying her new home immensely. AND Roxy has a built-in playmate - Cleo.

A note from the new Mom:
Roxy has been doing very well, as you can see she now has a nice curly coat, her winter coat is even thicker! The beginning was not smooth sailing, but it probably helped to create the deep affection and bond we now have. She and my other dog Cleo are now getting along really well and like to chase each other around the house. She's helping to keep Cleo young. This photo was taken during a break. Hijinks resumed soon after.
Thanks for a great dog,
Linda

Lucky Puppies - GROWING!

These Lucky Puppy pictures shows how well they are growing in their foster homes!  Looks like there is a surrogate Mom involved in one household.  And for those whose heartstrings are 'playing' - they will all need good forever homes in a short while.  If you are interested, please stop by the shelter on Bicentenario and talk to them.

Barry with his new family...

Do you remember Barry?  He was tied to our door one morning, abandoned and confused.  Look at him now!!  Wonder who is more excited?

Look at some of those abandoned dogs!!

From Pres. Gerardo...

Pee-wee is the runt that didn't socialize with her litter mates in the beginning.  So, we decided to Foster her.

3 days ago, one of the other fosterers decided they couldn't care for 2 of the puppies any longer. So, we took them on as well.

As you can see, their eyes are completely open now, they're eating like little horses, and rough-housing.

Abandoned dogs

....abandoned dogs that I found tied to our door this morning.
I did a brief exam on them and they are both quite healthy - and happy!
They appear to be about 1 - 3 years of age, and are obviously housemates because they get upset if they're separated.

We are over-capacity and need to adopt out some pets that have been spayed/neutered, and are ready to find their forever family.
