LOOKING FOR BOARD OFFICERS

AMIGOS DE LOS ANIMALES LOOKING FOR BOARD OFFICERS

In November  2014 Board President, Billie Losciale and Vice President, Pete Betlem announced their resignations effective March 31, 2015.  On March 5, 2015 Treasurer, Mina Hardy also announced her resignation.

President Losciale and Vice President Betlem also announced their intention to remain on the Board of Directors as vocals.

Both Billie and Pete expressed how much they have enjoyed their Board positions and  are proud of their respective accomplishments during their time in office but feel that due to age and length of service it is now time for younger folks to step up and take the reigns.  New energy and new ideas will help keep Amigos de los Animales a safe haven for Mazatlan's unwanted street animals.  It is hoped that new, invigorated leadership will bring the Shelter to even higher standards of care and expertise.

If you feel that you are interested in one of these positions (President, Vice President or Treasurer) please write a letter of introduction and deliver it to Amigos de Los Animales, Attention:  Billie Losciale or Pete Betlem.  Our address is:

Amigos de los Animales
Bicentenario Juarez #3
Col. Francisco Villa
Mazatlan

Our hours of operation are: 11 am to 2 pm  and 3 pm to 6 pm Monday - Friday and Saturday  11 am to 3 pm.

The Board of Directors will review all applications and announce their selections at the appropriate time.

In filling these positions the Board of Directors will consider qualifications that include some or all of the following:

  • A documented love and knowledge of animals
  • Business experience and the ability to make important decisions
  • Knowledge of record keeping, particularly financial accounting
  • Ability to work harmoniously with others
  • Full time residents - especially important in the summer when volunteers are scarce
  • Ability to spend time at the shelter - a minimum of one day a week.

Thank you for your interest

Do YOU recognize this dog?

Sweet little dog found running down Hwy 15 by the Walmart Marina on Friday Feb. 27. He is wearing a green harness and dragging a leash. Is anyone looking for him? Send me a facebook message or for English call Donna at cell # 669-933-0258. For Spanish 669-134-9575. He is at the animal sanctuary but I can describe him and give details. I can also go get him or take them to him if they don't have transportation

Litter of SEVEN

Puppies and then some!!!  This litter of SEVEN arrived about a week ago in apparent good health but, as with many litters, there is often a "runt" who just doesn't have the size or strength to get his/her share of food and water. The little guy in this case is getting special treatment to ensure that he gets enough to eat and drink and the results are beginning to show already.
These pups are too young to vaccinate but when the time comes they will be fully immunized and ready to go home.

Place your reservation now before it is too late!

Meet Bob

Meet Bob, one of our new guests.  Bob is very friendly but was very dirty with severely matted hair when he arrived.  Thanks to Mariel who took him home and gave him a bath and a haircut he now looks almost human again.  Mariel named him Bob, after Bob Marley.  Apparently Bob Marley and Bob had similar hair styles.
Bob needs to get his bill of health from our Vet but when he does Bob should have no trouble finding a new forever home.

Smitty - our Newest Resident

UPDATE ON SMITTY:

Smitty is coming out of his shell and is now a shelter favorite.  He is very loving with humans.  His eyes are brighter and his appetite is excellent.
Compare this photo to the one below

Another sign of improvement is his feisty attitude towards other dogs that get too close to his living quarters when there is food present.  Again, not with people, only other dogs (and presumably cats too but we have not tested that theory yet).
It is still a long way to full recovery - i.e. a new coat, but his overall demeanor has demonstrated that he is on the mend.  About his leg (or paw) he is now putting weight on it by himself so that may become a self-healing issue.
Stay-tuned!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is a photo of Smitty who came to us February 18, 2015!  He has been treated for worms and is now on medication for his hair loss (mange).  He also has a leg or paw that is not functioning but the Vet wants Smitty to gain more weight first and then he will work on the leg.
Smitty (aka Pelon)

Smitty is very quiet and gentle.  It will take some time but one day he will be well and available for a new home.
Thanks to John and Sharon for rescuing Smitty.  He was found near a golf course, obviously abandoned and covered in grime (probably motor oil) and dehydrated.  Unable to just leave Smitty where he was, John brought him home and Sharon gave him a bath (it took 1 1/2 hours to get the oil off).  The next day we received him at the shelter.
Watch for updates!!

Dogs and Fireworks - a TERRIBLE combination

Here is a story about a beautiful dog and what happened when he was exposed to a neighbor's fireworks.  Please be aware that these terrify our dogs.

Carnaval 2015

Carnaval draws thousands of people every year to see the floats, costumes, beautiful gals, etc.  This year our very own President - Billie - was a part of the show.  See if you can spot her.

Annual Champagne Brunch

What a great turnout for our annual Champagne Brunch fundraiser.  With nearly 300 people in attendance we were packed with great folks eating, drinking and supporting ADLA with their silent auction purchases, raffle tickets, 50/50 tickets and more.
Thanks are in order to the staff at the El Cid Marina - the food was great and the champagne was flowing all during the event.  Service was first class.
The location turned out to be a crowd pleasing favorite with every table having a great view of the ocean and the marina.
This year was perhaps our best brunch ever and thanks to our supporters in attendance we will be able to survive those long dry summer months.  A big Thank you to everyone of you that attended.
Let's also give a huge note of appreciation to the committee of volunteers that gave generously of their time and talent to make this event the success that it was.  It is a dangerous thing to start listing names and then omitting someone, but those that volunteered know who you are and how much we appreciated your efforts.
All in all a super event!
